On the Fringe of Mesopotamia: Investigating Urbanization and Cultural Interaction During the Bronze Age in an Unexplored Part of Iraqi Kurdistan

The University of Tübingen started archaeological investigations in the westernmost part of Iraqi Kurdistan, close to the borders of Turkey and Syria in 2013. Despite turbulent times in Iraq, fieldwork was uninterrupted from 2013 to 2017. Hundreds of settlements from different periods were detected, three of which have been excavated since 2015.
