Total Solar Eclipse 08.21.17 Adler Planetarium
It’s a spectacular sight. For people in the “path of totality,” the Moon will block out the mid-day Sun completely for nearly three minutes. While Chicago is not in the path of totality, viewers from the city will see the Moon cover up to 90 percent of the Sun. It’s rare. The last time Chicago was this close to the path of totality for a total solar eclipse was in 1806—210 years ago! It may be the most viewed total solar eclipse ever. The path of totality will make the eclipse visible from several major highways and cities in the middle of the day during a time of year when many people are on vacation and enjoying outdoor activities.
