Dave Hoover: Growing an Apprenticeship Program
When it came time to grow Obtiva in 2007, it was clear to me that we needed a two-pronged approach: we would hire the best people we could afford, and we would grow great developers through an apprenticeship program. In this talk, I will step through the evolution of this apprenticeship program, its progression from a team of 5, to consultancy of 50, to an engineering department of 500.
Speaker:Dave Hoover enjoys developing software developers while developing software. One of his life goals is to decentralize education. He writes about technology, learning, and apprenticeship. He helped grow Obtiva, Mad Mimi, and Groupon. In 2011, he got involved in Starter League and helped Mobile Makers get started in 2012. In April 2013, Dave is launching Dev Bootcamp in Chicago’s River North.
Dave has published a book on apprenticeships, called “Apprenticeship Patterns: Guidance for the Aspiring Software Craftsman.”Register HERE
