Rachel Kleinfeld, Founder and President, Truman National Security Project
Drew Sloan, Client Solutions Executive, Opower

Join Dr. Rachel Kleinfeld and Drew Sloan for a discussion on the not-so-obvious national security issues facing the United States. The authors of Let There Be Light: Electrifying the Developing World with Markets and Distributed Energy will shed light on some of the infrastructure challenges that threaten stability and security in the modern world.
Dr. Rachel Kleinfeld is the founding president of the Truman National Security Project. In 2011, Secretary Clinton appointed Kleinfeld to the Foreign Affairs Policy Board, the advisory body to the U.S. Department of State. Previously, she was a senior consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton and the Center for Strategic and International Studies. She has consulted for the World Bank, European Union, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, and is currently a non-resident associate of the Carnegie Endowment. She has worked in human rights and economic development in India, Israel, and Eastern Europe, and has served as an elections monitor in Pakistan and Bangladesh. One of Time’s 40 under 40 top political leaders, Kleinfeld appears regularly on national radio and television and serves as a security expert for the National Journal. A Rhodes Scholar, she received her B.A. from Yale University and her M.Phil. and D.Phil. from St. Antony’s College, Oxford.

Drew Sloan is currently a client solutions executive at the energy efficiency and smart grid engagement company, Opower. Previously, Sloan served combat tours in both Afghanistan and Iraq as an infantry officer in the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. His military awards include two bronze stars for meritorious service and a purple heart. Sloan’s time in service was chronicled in the 2008 non-fiction work, In a Time of War, by Bill Murphy Jr. In 2009, he testified before the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and briefed President Obama before the Copenhagen Climate Negotiations. Sloan has worked at both Rocky Mountain Institute and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He received a dual M.B.A. and M.P.A. from Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
