The New Saloon// Candidates on Tap
Temperance Beer Co. and Jenny Arrington
Thu, February 16, 2017 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
Back in the 19th century, “more than the beer, saloons provided a gathering place in a nation with little public space for working-class men to argue the issues or meet the candidates.”*
With no fewer than five candidates competing in the Evanston mayoral primary on Feb 28, 2017, we decided it was the time to bring the saloon back (this time with women). Come meet your candidates, ask questions, and throw one or two back in an open forum with a healthy exchange of ideas. And plenty of beer.
Now’s the time to get to know the candidates and see which one you’d most want to have a beer with.
“What we need, more than tweets or memes, is the kind of civic life that transpires when men and women gather face to face and, as a fan of old saloons put it, ‘political matters ebb and flow free as froth on the beer.'”*
We’ll be sure to have Might Meets Right, our most political beer, on tap that night.
