“Why Prevent Extinction?”

The Chicago Academy of Sciences and its
Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum have convened a conference in an attempt
to answer this deceptively simple question in a way that is both
scientifically rigorous and accessible. It will begin with the premise
that there are at least four answers to the question—utility,
aesthetics, ethics, and who cares? You are invited to attend the
weekend of May 30 and contribute to the discussion at #Prevent
Extinction on Twitter.

Keynote address and wine and cheese reception May 30th, conference
(including lunch) on May 31st, and a tour of Bluff Springs Fen on June
1st. See the attached flyer or go to for more
information and registration—50% off for students and Museum
