By Antonio Terrone, Assistant Professor of Tibetan Buddhist Studies, National Chengchi University, Taiwan

Antonio Terrone is Assistant Professor of Tibetan Buddhist Studies at the Graduate Institute of Religious Studies at the National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan. His research focuses on Buddhism in contemporary Tibet, religion and the state in the People’s Republic of China, violence and self-immolation, and Chinese ethnic minorities and religious policies, particularly as they pertain to Uyghur Muslims and Tibetan Buddhists in China. He has recently published a study on conceptions of the environment and landscape among Tibetan Buddhist visionaries (JSRNC 2014). His first book nearing completion is titled Holders of the Lotus, Children of the Mountains: Buddhist Visionaries, Sacred Landscapes, and the Rise of the Religious Encampments in Contemporary Tibet.
