This year’s Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Jerusalem Lecture will be given by Archbishop Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. The title of his talk is: Religious Responsibility in an Age of Affluence and Poverty.
Archbishop Blase J. Cupich was appointed and installed as Archbishop of Chicago in 2014. Born and raised in Nebraska, he was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Omaha. He obtained his BA in Philosophy from the College of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended seminary at the North American College and Gregorian University in Rome. He also holds a Doctor of Sacred Theology degree from the Catholic University of America.
Before coming to Chicago, Archbishop Cupich served as Bishop of the Diocese of Spokane, Washington. He has served as the Secretary at the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, DC and as the Chair for the USCCB Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People. He serves on committees including the National Catholic Educational Association Board, the USCCB Subcommittee for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe, the Catholic Mutual Relief Society, and the Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation Board. He is Chancellor of the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois.
