Perhaps you’re an analyst and need to work on investigating a question, but to investigate you need to collect data. What data should you use and why? Do we use data that’s online “because, it’s already online”? Some data scientists would ask we don’t, even going so far as to advocate for a Data Oath (https://www.techatbloomberg.com/blog/data-scientists-develop-version-hippocratic-oath/).
Join PyLadies Chicago as we sit and talk with data practitioners from varying spaces – data science, data engineering and data driven journalism – to discuss the role of ethics in data and data science. We’ll discuss how these practitioners use data in their disciplines and the challenges they face. Additionally we’ll discuss what we as technologists and users of technology can do to confront these challenges head on. Light food and beverage will be provided by our host ShopRunner.
