Over a near-forty-year career in the U.S. military, General David Petraeus has served as head of the multinational forces in Iraq (2004-2005), commander of coalition forces in Iraq (2007-2008), commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan (2010-2011), and director of the CIA (2011-2012).

Gen. Petraeus has received honors including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, the Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Defense Superior Service Medal, four awards of the Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star Medal for Valor.
