The Impact of Populism & Nationalism on American Democracy

Fri, October 19, 2018  12:00 PM – 1:15 PM

Join the IOP as we welcome National Review senior editor Jonah Goldberg for a conversation on his new book, Suicide of the West: How the Rebirth of Tribalism, Populism, Nationalism, and Identity Politics is Destroying American Democracy. In his third New York Times bestseller, Mr. Goldberg chronicles the societal missteps that, he argues, led to the present surge of populist and nationalist movements. Exposing “the West’s suicidal tendencies on both sides of the ideological aisle,” he offers a way forward to restore the health of liberal democracy.

In addition to his work at National Review, Mr. Goldberg is a weekly columnist for the Los Angeles Times, a member of the board of contributors to USA Today, and a contributor to Fox News. He holds the Asness Chair in Applied Liberty at the American Enterprise Institute and has been named one of the top 50 political commentators in America.

This conversation will be moderated by IOP Pritzker Fellow Mary Katherine Ham.

Lunch will be provided. Book sales and signing to follow.
