Thursday, February 20, 2020 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Since time immemorial, individuals have gathered in public houses and taverns to discuss the issues of the day, often with a touch of wit and jocularity, and usually with a drop or two of the amber nectar close by. Join us as we recreate the spirit and the essence of an informed citizenry in a democratic republic with the first in a new series of parliamentary-style extemporaneous debates.
Everyone who wishes will have an opportunity to speak either for or against the resolution and to stand for questions afterwards if you so choose (and we encourage you to do so).
At the debate’s conclusion we will take a vote and the question will be resolved for all time. It’s all done with grace and charm, with copious amounts of food and an open bar at hand to stimulate your thinking and lubricate your vocal chords. Come hoist a drink and share your views at the next Federalist Society Tavern Debate.
Resolved: The Future is Female!
“Nature prefers a female,” an old saying has it, and perhaps that saying is true. Human fetuses initially more resemble females than males, and although males outnumber females at birth, in nearly every society women historically outlive men. The majority of U. S. undergraduate and graduate degrees now go to women, who have also made increasing inroads in professions, especially law, medicine, and government. Meanwhile, the Y chromosome – which has no counterpart to help repair it – is literally shrinking, while worldwide testosterone levels continue to drop. Just as a farmer needs fewer bulls than cows, or roosters than hens, perhaps men are increasingly unnecessary even for human survival.
Is the future female?
Doors open at 5:30 and the gavel drops at 6:00 p.m.
This is an audience participation event. Please bring your friends, hoist a glass and join the debate! Ample Libations (and food) will be served, and are included in the admission cost.
