When faced with a health issue, the right medical choice will be different for every person.
Ideally, this choice is a result of shared decision making: a collaboration between a person and her doctor that combines clinical evidence with an understanding of the person’s values. But anyone who has had to make an important medical decision – whether for themselves, for a loved one, or as a clinician – knows that finding time for shared decision making can seem impossible in today’s rushed environment.
Enter Ted Meisel. An experienced healthcare and technology entrepreneur, executive, and investor, Ted co-founded WiserCare in 2013 to unlock shared decision making at scale.
“Shared decision making is one of the few interventions with the potential to be a win for patients, doctors, provider organizations, payers, and life sciences companies,” Ted said. WiserCare’s patented technology provides patients and their physicians with the insight they need to quickly choose the right treatment path at the right time.
This technology is especially exciting as healthcare shifts further towards personalized medicine and value-based care. WiserCare is part of a Center for Medicaid and Medicare Innovation payment model test that aims to integrate shared decision making into the routine clinical practices of accountable care organizations.
Prior to founding WiserCare, Ted was an investor at Elevation Partners, co-founded AVIA, and served as the CEO of Overture Services, an internet search company, which he led from its first dollar to over $1 billion in revenues before selling to Yahoo!
Ted will join us for our next Tales From the Trenches, to talk about his entrepreneurial journey from the early days of internet search to shared decision making in healthcare.
