Sanctuary Cities: The Good, The Bad and The Constitutional

Chicago Kent College of Law

March 27, 12-1PM

The City of Chicago has sued the federal government for attempting to withhold certain federal funds from “sanctuary cities.” Sanctuary cities limit their cooperation with the federal government’s effort to enforce immigration law. Does that violate the principles of federalism? Does withholding federal funds from sanctuary cities infringe on local sovereignty? Let’s debate. Hans Von Spakvosky of the Heritage Foundation will argue against the policies of sanctuary cities. The other side will also be presented by a speaker to be determined. Free Chic-fil-A will be provided at this lunchtime event. Sponsored by the Federalist Society, HLLSA, and the American Constitution Society.
