According to some analysts, the Democratic Party of 2018 faces an identity crisis, as centrist and far-left factions battle for control of the party platform on issues such as trade, immigration, and healthcare. What are the factors driving this intra-party division? What do the primary victories of far-left challengers mean for the Democratic establishment? And how will a wave of progressive candidates affect election outcomes in 2018 and beyond?
Join the IOP as we welcome Jeff Weaver, former campaign manager for Bernie Sanders, for a conversation on his new book, How Bernie Won: Inside the Revolution That’s Taking Back Our Country – and Where We Go from Here. In recounting the ups and downs of the 2016 Democratic primary, Mr. Weaver chronicles the rise of a constituency that remains a driving force in American politics.
Mr. Weaver has worked with Senator Sanders since 1986, recently serving as president of Our Revolution. He is currently a senior political adviser to the senator.
This conversation will be moderated by Paul Tewes, political strategist and a Pritzker Resident Fellow at the IOP this quarter. Book sales and signing to follow.
