From Grantmaker to Changemaker: A New Direction for Helping Chicago

Executives’ Club of Chicago

October 11, 2018, 11:15-1:15

Moderator: John Pletz, Senior Reporter, Crain’s Chicago Business

Helene Gayle brings a unique perspective to the CEO role at The Chicago Community Trust, the region’s foundation with $2.8 billion in assets. She is a physician who has been on the forefront of addressing global health and socioeconomic inequity for more than three decades, serving as president and CEO of CARE, a leading international humanitarian organization, and in leadership roles at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

In the past year, she has been listening to Chicago residents describe what she calls “inexcusable inequity.” Dr. Gayle will reveal what she has learned, her outlook for the Trust’s work and what local business leaders can do to make a difference in solving our city’s pressing challenges. Dr. Gayle serves on the boards of The Coca-Cola Company and the Colgate-Palmolive Company, among other organizations.
