Former Secretary of the U.S. Navy Ray Mabus (2009 – 2017)

Mon, April 23, 2018 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM

Join the IOP as we welcome former U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, the 75th United States Secretary of the Navy. During his tenure, Secretary Mabus advocated for and oversaw the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, the full integration of women in the military, and the military’s move toward reliance on alternative sources of energy.

Before becoming the longest-serving leader of the Navy and Marine Corps since World War I, Secretary Mabus served as U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia and Governor of Mississippi. He was awarded the U.S Department of Defense Distinguished Public Service Award and U.S Army’s Distinguished Civilian Service Award.

This conversation will be moderated by Cécile Shea, nonresident senior fellow on security and diplomacy at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
