Your clients expect you to secure television news coverage for them. And even if the concept that you are promoting could be newsworthy, it’s bound to face fierce competition for air time. That’s why you need to know who Chicago’s TV News “Gatekeepers” are, what restrictions they operate under, and what you can do to increase the chances that they’ll put your clients on air.
If your client has something they can immediately offer related to breaking news coverage (ie: Anti-Terror expert) you should be going through the Assignment Editor at one of Chicago’s TV News Desks. And if the promotion that you are working on is newsworthy but not urgent, your best bet will be to approach the TV news outlet through their News Planning Editor at least 2-4 days in advance. PCC will have an expert panel featuring both types of news gatekeepers on hand to share their advice on how you can get your clients across the threshold.
Panelists confirmed to date:
Angie Rosemond, WMAQ-TV, NBC 5, Assignment Manager
Jennifer Struzik-Gates, Fox News Chicago, Assignment Editor
