About the speakers:
Janet Garetto is a partner in the IP group. Her practice spans the firm’s Trademarks & Copyrights, Patents and IP Litigation practice groups. Janet counsels clients on IP issues facing their brands. In addition, she counsels clients on patent protection and litigation prevention issues with a focus on chemical and mechanical technologies.
Parit A. Patel, MD, FACS
is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with subspecialty training in craniofacial surgery. He obtained a master’s degree in physiology and a doctorate of medicine from the Chicago Medical School. Afterwards, Dr. Patel completed an integrated plastic surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati/Cincinnati Children’s hospital, consistently ranked in the top 3 in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Children’s Hospitals ranking. He subsequently completed a craniofacial fellowship at the world renown NYU Langone Medical Center/Hansjorg Wyss department of plastic surgery, ranked number 2 by Doximity as one of the best plastic surgery programs in the U.S. As a committed lifelong learner, he is currently obtaining his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Dr. Patel has extensive research experience, he has presented and published over 50 papers at national and international meetings and in scientific journals. His research has focused on using 3D printing in craniofacial surgery and he has received grants and numerous awards for the quality of his research.
After practicing academic plastic surgery for many years, Dr. Patel recently founded and is active Chief Medical Officer of the Plastic Surgery Clinic of Chicago, a private plastic and reconstructive surgery practice located in the heart of downtown Chicago.

Dima Elissa is a serial techpreneur currently CEO and founder of VisMed-3D, a biomedical design and consulting firm that uses Al to design and visualize 3D printed body parts. Dima was selected by Chicago magazine as one of the top Women in Tech, Chicagolnno’s 50 on Fire, MakeItBetter’s Top Cicago Women in Science and by Chicago Tribune’s BlueSky Vault as one of the Top 100 entrepreneurs in Chicago. Her recent designations include the American Medical Woman’s Association (AMWA) Tech and Innovation Lead under the Diversity, Inclusion & Innovation (DI&I) sector and an LGBT White House delegate on Technology and Innovation. Dima also serves as a member of the board of trustee of Hanover College, board member for mHUB Chicago, iGIANT, is Chicago Chapter President for Women in Bio, and Chair of the STEM steering committee for the Aparecio Foundation. brings more than 20 years of experience in scientific research and medical technology innovation to his work on the Vizua team. While earning his masters degree in neuroscience at Drexel Medical School in Philadelphia, he directed research projects on 3D-reconstruction of neuronal networks and regenerative quantification. Prior to joining Vizua, Jean-Manuel led an international team innovating automation for a human islet cell transplantation clinical trial including in imaging processes, and led various medical informatics projects at the University of Chicago Medical Center. In his time at Vizua he has developed an expertise on 3D printing, virtual reality, augmented reality, Microsoft HoloLens and the Vizua’s products. These qualities help channel investments and clients in support to the team. Jean-Manuel brings a critical global perspective and scientific innovation vision to the Vizua team, leveraging his knowledge, experience and extensive professional networks to generate business and open up new markets.
Ellie O’Brien serves as the Innovations Lab Manager and Design Engineer for Northwestern Simulation, a part of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. In this role she combines design thinking with engineering to focus on modeling, prototyping, and production. She creates and produces medical training devices using state-of-the-art materials and techniques, including modern polymers, 3D printing, and Computer-Aided Design (CAD); and she collaborates closely with faculty members across the medical school to respond to pressing needs in medical education.
