For the last five years Professional Women in Advocacy has hosted an annual conference in Washington, D.C. to provide professional development programming to women in our field. Due to popular demand PWIA has started hosting regional one day workshops. We are planning our second one in Chicago, IL August 23, 2018 and we would love to see you there!

9:30am Opening Remarks: Women Count!
Will 2018 be the year of the woman at the ballot box? How more women voting, engaging, advocating, running, and governing will improve policy outcomes for all. Speaker: LeeAnn Petersen, CEO, PWIA Conference
10:00am Communications for Advocacy – Crafting and Delivering a Message that Resonates
Receive tips from experts on how to frame your message so people act, react and engage with your information. Learn how audiences consume information and which traditional and new media platforms work best for advocacy. Moderator: Ann Dermody, CQ Advocacy
11:00am Lobbying Compliance – The Rules Have Changed – Are You Keeping Up?
These days it seems like everyone is an advocate – but who should register, when and what are the triggers? Refresh your understanding of federal, state and local lobbying and campaign finance laws to avoid pitfalls and stay out of trouble. Speaker: Elizabeth Bartz, CEO of State & Federal Communications

12:15pm Keynote Luncheon – Dr. Janice K. Jackson, CEO of Chicago Public Schools (Invited)
Dr. Jackson has served as a principal, a Network Chief, the Chief Education Officer. Her current role as Acting Chief Executive Officer for CPS, the third largest school district in the country, makes her the chief advocate for Chicago Public Schools and the perfect speaker to address our audience.
1:30pm Political Engagement – Take your PAC and Grassroots Program to the Next Level
Learn how to harness activism within your organization by identifying, organizing and inspiring grassroots leaders. Hear about proven techniques for attracting donors at the highest levels, how to reward them and keep them engaged.
2:30pm Been there Done that – Women of Distinction
BTDT is everyone’s favorite PWIA session because it gathers a group of successful women from business, media and politics to share their stories, lend advice and leave you inspired to succeed.
3:30pm Networking happy hour- Join us by the bar to discuss what you learned, make new relationships and rekindle old ones.
